A Weekend in Utah Spent Running Around Roller Coasters (Lagoon Half Marathon/10k)

Lagoon is the small-ish theme park in Utah that I lived 10 minutes from where I grew up. I went there regularly. I even performed there as a singer and dancer.

I'm in the orange and red striped suit performing at Lagoon in 2006.

My Lagoon head shot from 9 years ago (2006).

After a very very very frustrating Saturday evening that I'm not going to talk about because it will put it in a bad mood, Saturday morning came and my sister Jolie, my dad, and I made our way to the starting line. My mom and my step dad Jeff arrived and found a place on the trail so they could cheer us on.

Just before the race started! Lagoon Half Marathon; Lagoon 10k
Here I am on the trail part of the run. My mom took this picture.

Here I am running through the finish line. It's pretty cool running through the park and underneath a roller coaster! I have to wait for them to post the pictures taken inside of the park.

There was a bit of confusion at the finish line. Someone got lost, and therefore skipped part of the race, and ended up in "1st place", so that put me in 3rd place overall, so I received a trophy for 3rd place, when I really got 2nd place overall. Oh well. They have since corrected the mistake on the results webpage. The guy who placed first passed me around the 1/2 mile marker and remained in front of me. I caught up to him and he noticed and picked up the pace a little. I couldn't catch him. (You can see him in the one of the photos above before he passed me.)

Whoever actually got 3rd place went home trophy-less because of the mix up.
Jolie got lost and ran 1/2 miles longer than she was supposed but still placed 2nd in her age group and 9th overall, though she would have placed in the top three if she wouldn't have been led astray. Regardless, running in the park was pretty fun.

Jolie ran with her GoPro as she is starting to review races and put such reviews on YouTube. I'm really excited to see her reviews.

Jolie, my mom, and me.
After the race Jolie and I stayed and played at the park because runners can get a day pass for only $20. My mom and Jeff joined us and we had such a great time at the park. The weather was beautiful as well. We loved how peacocks would just roam around the park haha! It was very nostalgic too which was fun.

Here is a fun Google Plus auto-awesome video that pretty much summed up my day.

Here are some pics from our adventures inside the park.

Jolie and me on the Flying Aces which was actually a lot of fun. We laughed a lot.

We were trying to look scared. Jolie did a good job. I didn't.

Going up the hill on the "white" roller coaster.
I remember riding this ride with my family ever since I was old enough to remember. It's almost a science. Actually, it is. It's all physics and which way you lean and when. The sum of our weights ended up yielding and incredible g-force filled experience. We're also experienced "leaners".

Rocking out physics skills on the Tilt-a-Whirl.
It was also LDS General Conference weekend. At night I relaxes and watched/listen to the talks that aired earlier that day. It was a great way to end a great day spent exercising and being with family.

  1. So would you run it again? Inaugural races always have bugs (aka getting LOST boo). The medals look cool. I can't believe I'm saying it, but I miss Lagoon! Memories!!

  2. So much fun! Confusing course, but like Gravy said, inaugural races always have bugs. I hope they have it again next year, despite people's frustrations.
